  • Composer: Roger Derongé
  • Instrumentation: Brass Band & Cornet
  • Grade: 3 (band) & 5-6 (soloist)
  • Duration: 10'40''
  • Item number: BVT184

The whole through-composed work consists of 2 large parts.

After the cadenza-like start we get long lyrical melodies supported by soft chords. Here the soloist can make use of his expressivity. This part is easy to listen to but intensive for the soloist.

The faster movement contains 4 vivid themes that sound like folk music, which is common in rhapsodic works. After a rhythmic part with large intervals we enter a kind of Mexican folk dance in the style of a Huapango. This typical Latin American music style has a mix of the bars 6/8 and 2/4. The 3rd theme has a humorous touch in the style of the Italian Tarantella.

This rhapsody ends, like many solo works, with fast, virtuoso and spicy runs. Written for and dedicated to Lode Violet, principal cornet of Brassband Willebroek.
