Geert Jan Kroon

Geert Jan Kroon (1981 Meppel, The Netherlands) is a musicologist, composer, conductor, music journalist and euphonium player. His compositions are published at Tower Editions. After a career in IT he decided to change to a musical career. He studied Musicology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and did his master at the Utrecht University. As a musicologist he researches French fourteenth century polyphonic music, especially the Roman de Fauvel. He was a guest speaker at the Montpellier Codex Fascicle 8 conference at Oxford University. He started composing and arranging at a young age.  In his composing he searches for a new sound with uncommon scales, cluster harmonies, and micro tonality, without losing the audience in complexity. He was a finalist in the RWCMD/Cory Composition Prize 2016.
